Bought a new home - Admin edition

You have signed on the dotted line and after months of waiting you have a new home! Now there are plenty things that will be taking place at once which could possibly cause some stress. Your moving admin does not need to be one of those things. Below we provide you with a list of a few admin tasks, which are frequently forgotten about. The sooner you have them crossed off your list, the sooner you can move into your new home without worrying about having to tie up loose ends. A checklist makes it easier to remember these tasks, so copy and paste the list we have provided you with below.

 

1. Inform work or school

 

It is important to inform your work place and or the school your child attends of your moving. Notifying your child's school in advance could assist them in helping your child's transition from one school to the next to be as smooth as possible - this is of course if your child is moving schools. Otherwise, it is important that your work and the school have your new address because as they require it. So, ensuring that their information pertaining to you stays as up to date is very important.

 

 

2. Plan your move

 

Planning your move well in advance can help you avoid any unwanted stress and can help you ensure that on the day things run smoothly. Things to include in your plan would be to contact a moving company and book them accordingly. Packing your items in advance and marking them correctly that you and the movers know where they need to go when they reach their new destination.

 

 

3. Update your address

 

With moving to a new home, means you will be obtaining a new address. It is therefore important to notify all the institutions that make use of your address of the information change. Places that you may need to contact would be the bank, credit card companies, all health practices - such as a doctor or a dentist, your insurance companies and any service providers - such as your internet and or cellphone provider.

 

 

4. Connect Utilities

 

There is nothing worse than moving into a new home and some of your day-to-day utilities are not connected. It is therefore important to arrange this service in advance, so that you can ensure that these items are ready for use when you move in. A good example of this - is many people work from home and would therefore need instant internet access. It is therefore important that you notify the internet company in advance that they are able to arrange your connection takes place at a time that would be convenient for everyone and at the same time ensuring that no time is wasted for when you move in you can start working immediately.

 

 

5. Keep Documents Safe

 

The reality of a move is that you are likely to misplace items such as documents. To prevent this from happening, ensure that all important documentation such as birth certificates, qualifications, contracts and passports are filed correctly. By having these items filed in one place and marked correctly it will help you to find again once you have moved into your new home.

 

It is important to remember that by planning and taking small steps to ensuring a smooth move, you will help yourself remove some of the stress that goes along with a move.
