Out and about in Cape Town
The Cape Town summer is such a spoil this season for locals and tourists alike - yes you read right. Tourists are back in town and our lockdown restrictions have been relaxed to such an extent that we have a taste of normality at last.
This means that concerts, soirees, theatre, and open-air functions have reconvened and that your weekend or midweek activity list of things to do has increased drastically.
Gather your friends and family and plan your weekend activities - below are some great suggestions.
"Afrikaanse Taalmuseum en monument"
Many Capetonians thoroughly enjoy a picnic with friends and family. Rightfully so because Cape Town offers scenic picnic locations. The 'Afrikaanse Taalmuseum en Monument" happens to be a lovely picnic spot for young and old. They will be open on 18 March 2022 from 17:00 for the final full moon picnic of the year.
Entrance is quite affordable, and this picnic is perfect for a budget friendly excursion. Adults can expect to pay R40 each, where students and pensioners can expect to pay R10 and children above six years old R5. Visitors are welcome to pack their own picnics or pre-order an indulgent picnic basket from the "ATM Koffiehuis".
If you are planning to attend, please ensure that you remember to bring along your masks and sanitizer (all COVID procedures apply) as well as a torch for when leaving the picnic.
Giselle Ballet
Ballet enthusiasts are in for a treat because, Cape Town City Ballet presents the romantic yet haunting production of Maina Gielgud - Giselle. With a promising cast of both international and local dancers, Giselle will be one of those ballets that you simply cannot miss.
This alluring piece will be on stage at Artscape Theatre from 18 March till 9 April 2022. For matinee performances ticket prices range from R175 - R295, recorded music performances cost R250 - R395 and lastly performances featuring international dancers accompanied by the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra cost R350 - R750 per ticket.
Stellenbosch Street Soiree
What better way to celebrate the middle of the week than by winding down at Stellenbosch Street Soiree, while sipping on some of Stellenbosch wine routes best wines. You can expect to be presented with all of what makes Stellenbosch special - wine, food, vibrant street culture and that oh so sought-after urban lifestyle.
R150 gets you in and gives you, your wine glass along with 10 tasting tokens. Each soiree is unique in its own right and presents different food and wine. Attendees can expect an eclectic experience.
There are two dates available 9 and 23 March 2022, so buy your tickets in advance to avoid disappointment.
"Die Boer"
"Die Boer" is back in full swing with a great variety of shows headlining their infamous stage. If you find yourself in the Durbanville area, "Die Boer" is the perfect date night option. Their kitchen offers scrumptious meals, and their shows never disappoint. Head over to their website to see who will be on stage in the upcoming months.
Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts
A summer sunset concert is a special way to spend a Sunday afternoon / evening. Kirstenbosch offers some of the best views and picnic spots that Cape Town has to offer. Adding Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden as the backdrop to a concert of a musical favourite simply does not get any better.
There are only two shows available, seeing as Summer Sunset Concerts have also just made their appearance again. You can catch these shows on 20 March 2022 and 27 March 2022. First up on stage will be Jimmy Nevis and second will be Jeremy Loops. Both concerts will cost R220 per person for adults and R170 per person for individuals aged between 6 - 21 years old.
