Michael Bublé, Boney M and Mariah Carey have started taking up space on our airwaves again and the malls are filled with festive cheer. Tis the season to celebrate all things joyful and some of these mandatory activities include - scrumptious food, fabulous family, sandy beaches, and SHOPPING. That is right, we all visit some sort of store to add some extra cheer to our homes and our families and what better place to shop than a festive market. We have been spoiled for choice this season and all these markets have stepped up their game. The markets of 2023 cater for young and old and all interests. Let's delve into some of our favourites and hopefully you will be encouraged to visit them too.
Christmas Vintage Market
First up we have the Christmas Vintage Market which will be taking place at Chocolat Bistro, Durbanville. This is a night market and promises to be a shopping wonderland. You will be able to pick up unique items to be gifted or kept. On arrival you will receive a complimentary glass of Pongracz, which adds an extra touch of class to this marvellous shopping experience. The vintage Christmas Market will be open daily from 12:00 - 22:00 from the 21-23 November 2023.
Savvy Sisters Christmas Market
If a hidden gem is what you are searching for, this is the market for you. Adorned with magnificent trees, Christmas tunes and twinkly lights, you will not be able to control the overwhelming festive feelings. Savvy Sisters Christmas Market ensures to meet your expectations of a one stop shopping experience. Specially curated products for the whole family will be on sale Saturday 25 November from 09:00 - 16:00. Located at the Little Orchard Nursery in Diep River, this market will make for a unique shopping adventure.
Stellenbosch Christmas Market
Keeping things slightly more traditional is the Stellenbosch Christmas Market. This market is a great family outing with plenty of baked goods and homemade foods to enjoy on site. 211 Stalls offer a well-balanced variety of quality handmade products from artists and craftsman alike. The market will be running for 10 days from 22 November 2023 - 2 December 2023. Located on Martinson Street, Uniepark the market is open weekdays from 09:00 - 19:00 and Saturdays from 09:00 - 16:00. This market is one that should not be missed.
Skeppend Kersmark
Nestled in the breathtaking Franschhoek valley is the Skeppend Kersmark at Allee Bleue. Skeppend is by far one the most beautiful markets, the view and environment is reason enough to make a turn. Starting the 1 December and running for 10 days, visitors will be treated to an array of world class locally handmade products which are all one of a kind. Open daily from 10:00-17:00.
Son en See Feesmark
Make a day of it and head to Hermanus to enjoy this friendly market. Being close to the coast will encourage a casual stroll through the Son en See Feesmark. Embrace the slow life and drink in every unique moment encountered. Gifts, décor, books, toys, games, jewellery, handbags, homemade delicacies, and pancakes are all on offer. Situated at Grobbelaar Hall, Marine Drive - the market will be open from 11 December 2023 to 6 January 2024, making this the perfect holiday outing. Entry to this market is free and it is also wheelchair accessible.
The festive season brings along with it an endless number of markets for families to visit, each unique in their own right. Venturing out to an area and market less frequented, can only mean new experiences and memories.
